Design Space Friday

Today's Design Space Friday (on Saturday) shares how to align and slice circles to create a card front.

I needed to design new cards for my All About the Ink classes for the upcoming Scrap It Southern Style event in Houston, TX and Jacksonville, FL.

In the video I share how to cut the circles out of the White Daisy and the Pansy cardstock. And finally how to weld the heart as shown in the right card.

The left hand card has a large circle and it remains centered from side to side and closer to the top. The right hand card has smaller circles offset.

Enjoy the tutorial.

Working with Scraps

I love how you end up with such a small amount of leftovers when you work with the Close To My Heart Workshop Your Ways. Today I am sharing the last layout I created from the leftovers from the Some Kinda Wonderful Workshop Your Way.

There were two large strips of the large circle pattern paper and zip strips. Don't know what a zip strip is, well it is how Close To My Heart ensures all our paper is usable. The small 1/2" x 12" piece that runs along the top of the pattern with the paper pack information has a print on the other side that may be used in projects. You can see with the Some Kinda Wonderful, there was a raspberry pink zip strip, a multi-colored geometric shapes zip strip, and a black with white spotted circles. Love the zip strips!!

I added a few of the scraps of Willow for photo mats and some of the sparkly black glitter leftover pieces from the Some Kinda Wonderful Complements. I usually end up with more Complements leftover however they will work with any paper pack!!

Enjoy and your comments are always encouraged!!

Design Space Friday Pop Up Peek A Boo Card

I was inspired by the video from Deb Valder on how to make a Pop Up Peek A Boo card and knew it would work as a great Design Space file.

I used the Live Beautifully National Scrapbooking Month paper pack, New England Ivy cardstock and ink and white and gold ribbon to create my first card. Since it is now a Design Space file, I will be able to cut enough for my upcoming card class!

Here I used the gold foiled floral sheet. It is white on the back side, making it a perfect choice for this card. The inside insert is cut on Close To My Heart White Daisy cardstock, our thickest cardstock, This combination created a sturdy card base but not to thick.

The frame and the vase are from Close To My Heart Cricut cartridges, Art Philosophy (retired) and Flower Market and cut in Glacier cardstock. A strip of New England Ivy cardstock is a great backdrop to the sending smiles sentiment stamped in New England Ivy ink.. The sentiment is from the Flower Market collection exclusive stamp set.

Stamping on Pattern Paper, a tutorial

In an earlier post, I shared my start on a layout sharing how I stamped on the large polka dot Little Dreamer pattern paper.

Here is the completed layout. Using the ShinHan alcohol markers, I added a little of the lagoon, blossom, and thistle colors to the title.

Adding smaller flowers to the left side of the layout using the same Shower Flowers stamp image used on the pattern gives balance to the layout.

A little clear shimmer pen and white Shimmer Trim add the bling I like in my projects. And the small white dots from the Black and White Dots embellishments add the finishing touch.

A Guide from the Past

One of my FAVORITE things about Close To My Heart is the instructional guides that are shared with each Workshop kit! The Workshop Your Way guides are available to download (PDF) and keep on your computer or print and add to your 'I will do this later' file.

Here is a layout using the retired Penelope Workshop Your Way guide.

Happy Mother's Day Mom

This is the second Mother's Day without my Mom. You would think it would get easier but it doesn't. This day of all days would be the day I would call and thank her for all she did for me. See Mom was my biggest  FAN. She is the reason I craft, she was always finding new crafty ideas.
I remember the candles she made. This was a hobby she took up when I was just entering high school. She had seen in a magazine how to put ice in a milk carton, add hot wax, tie a wick to a dowel and hang it from top of the milk carton and when set, cut the milk carton away. Click here to see how it is done.
